Home is a Place to live in… Family is a Place to find love in

A “Farewell” snap of 1967 as I leave home for England

But soon England was to turn into a great personal challenge… tackle racism in the UK or be oppressed by it in Jamaica

Joining the Probation Service led me to form the Association of Black Probation Officers… now in its 27th year

Much later I was to lead a multi-ethnic team in tackling racism within the Army – and worked at the heart of the Policing authority within the UK

The Shakespearean line (“The friends thou hast and their adoption tried, grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel”) was never more true in determining a partner and wife and good friends (e.g. Hilda, left)

Soon three beautiful boys with a beautiful supportive Polish-English wife were to affirm my belief that “somewhere in my youthful childhood, I must have done something good” (Sounds of Music)

Jamie, flanked by JD & Desmond who promised to “Get him to the church on time” – at least before he in turn got Desmond there (Oct 2008)

Playing cricket and winning at Lords was the apex of requited love that was in turned used as an unifying force for our Caribbean communities and for feeling more integrated in Britain.

But as Family is where love is truly found, I bask in Barbara’s Polish family where love abounds

as it does with my brothers (above)… where life has been tough but affection true (apology for two absent sisters, Joyce and Monica)

And as things come full circle, having a home and a family seems more than many can boast about. Its been a cracking story!
